Doll Closet

Hello again, doll friends!

Today I would like to show you a closet Mama made for our ever growing wardrobe.

She found inspiration to make this closet on Pinterest.

As always, Mama's instructions are below. You do not need to credit us or link back to this page if you choose to make this closet for yourself, since we only borrowed the idea from a wide variety of similar projects on Pinterest ourselves.

Let's go to the supplies and instructions....

Supplies

~ Plastic File Crate

~ Wooden dowels

~ Curtain or fabric

~ Ribbon

~ Small plastic hooks (wide enough opening to hold the dowel in place)

~ Small hand-held saw or any other wood cutting tool

~ E6000 craft glue or any other strong glue

~ Sewing needle and thread, or sewing machine

Instructions

The Clothes Hanging Rod:

~ Cut one of the wooden dowels to size, so that each end fits inside the hole on each side of the crate without sticking out.

~ Glue the ends of the dowels inside the crate holes. Let dry completely.

The Curtain Rod:

~ Glue the plastic hooks to the upper front corners of the crate. Let dry completely.

~ Cut another wooden dowel to size, so that each end is slightly longer than the width of the crate and sticks out a bit over the hooks.

The Curtain:

~ Take a piece of fabric and going by the length of the curtain rod cut it to fit the length as well as the width of the crate. Cut it to make two curtain halves. Make sure you allow for a bit of extra fabric to sew a tunnel as well as to hem the sides and the bottom end.

~ If you use a regular curtain, you might not need to sew a tunnel, since you can use the tunnel that's already on the curtain for hanging. You might not even have to hem the sides and bottom....it depends on the type of curtain you use.

~ Slide the tunnels of your curtain halves over the curtain rod and place the rod inside the hooks, but do not glue it.

* The reason I did not glue the curtain rod into the hooks is so I can take the curtains off if they need to be washed, or if I ever decide that I want different ones. I have also seen big round beads glued to the ends of the curtain rods, which look really pretty, but I avoided that step for the same reason....if a bead is glued on each side I won't be able to take the curtain off again, unless the tunnel of the curtain is wide enough to allow being slipped over the bead. *

I apologize for the loop sided look of the curtain in this picture. I took these pictures outside, and the wind decided not to cooperate, and to keep blowing the curtain to the side. 😋 Without the wind they hang perfectly straight.

~ If you would like to be able to keep your curtain open, cut two pieces of ribbon, thread them through a hole on each side of the crate, and tie the curtain halves back with them (see first picture).

~ You're done! 😀

* As a finishing touch you can decorate your closet in many ways. You can add additional hooks to the outside side walls for hats, bags, hairbands, etc. You could also weave ribbon through the holes on the sides and back of the crate walls and create a very nice effect that way. Use your imagination 😊 *

Have fun, and if you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Until next time!

❤ Maria
