~ With wrong sides facing you, sew the shoulder seams closed. How many inches you sew the shoulder seams is left up to you, but please make sure that you close them evenly on each side, and that the poncho will slip easily over the doll's head, and does not slide down over the doll's shoulders when you're done.

~ The sides of the poncho are usually left open, but of course you can also sew them together if you prefer. Just make sure to leave openings for the doll's arms.

~ Weave in all ends.

~ Add fringe to bottom edges (see instructions below).

How To Add Fringe

~ To add a nice line of fringe to the bottom edges of your poncho, choose two of the colors you used creating the poncho. I chose blue and red for mine.

~ To begin I cut 45 strands of blue yarn, and 45 strands of red yarn for my fringe, each approximately 5 inches in length. I decided to place my fringe into every other stitch, but if you want to skip a few more stitches between each fringe, you can definitely do that, and therefore won't need as many strands as I did.

~ To attach your fringe, take a blue and a red strand, hold them together, and fold them in half length-wise, leaving a little loop on the top. Insert your crochet hook into the poncho from the wrong side, working close to the edge, but also making sure that you have at least two stitches of yarn on your hook to anchor your fringe securely.

~ Put the loop of your two fringe strands over the crochet hook and pull the loop through the stitches of the poncho edge, making sure that your fringe ends are as evenly as possible. Now lift the loop, put the ends of the fringe around the crochet hook and pull them through the loop. Pull the loop tight to secure the fringe.

~ Continue attaching fringe in this same manner all around the edges of the front and back of your poncho. If your ends seem uneven or too long, simply trim them when you're done.
