Kitty Cat Hat (Adult Size)

I decided to add a section to the blog that is all about the things I knit and crochet, which are not doll related. I thought it would be nice to have this section, especially for people who are not on ravelry, and therefore can't see my designs that are not for the dolls, but instead are for us humans 😊

You will find pictures of the items here, as well as the written patterns. Links to the pdf file and to ravelry, in case you do have an account there, can be found at the end of the post.

Please note: My patterns are free for everyone to enjoy, but in return I would like to ask you to give me credit. You are not allowed to sell the patterns or to claim them as your own, but you are allowed to sell any of the finished projects you make with my patterns.

With this in mind have fun, and happy crocheting and knitting!

Kitty Cat Hat (Adult Size)

Here is a kitty hat that will keep you warm during the colder months of the year, but also lets you make a fashion statement at the same time. The adorable cat face stitched to the front of the hat will surely attract attention and get you noticed.

This is a great project for a beginner knitter; however, you need to be familiar with the duplicate stitch. If you do not have any experience with this method, please look up a tutorial.

The hat is worked in one piece from front to back, and them seamed together on the sides, so basically you will be making a big rectangle that is folded in half to form the hat. The cat face is added to the front with the duplicate stitch method before sewing the sides together.

It is recommended that you read entirely through the pattern before starting with it. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

Have fun, and happy knitting!

Supplies

~ Worsted weight yarn, 4-medium. I used the colors pink, black, gray, and green, but you can use any four colors you choose
~ Size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles
~ Stitch markers
~ Yarn needle

Abbreviations

~ st - stitch
~ sts - stitches
~ k - knit
~ p - purl
~ kfb - knit front and back
~ garter sts - knit all rows
~ k2tog - knit two stitches together

Instructions

~ Cast on 44 sts

~ Rows 1-10 - work in garter sts

~ Row 11 - k 5 sts, kfb 1 st, *k 3 sts, kfb 1 st*, repeat from * to * until 6 sts remain, k 6 sts = 53 sts

~ Rows 12-94 (or until entire piece measures 16.25 inches/41.3 cm) - work in stockinette sts, start row 12 with p

~ Row 95 - k 5 sts, k2tog, *k 3 sts, k2tog*, repeat from * to * until 6 sts remain, k 6 sts = 44 sts

~ Rows 96-105 - work in garter sts

~ Cast off

~ Weave in all ends

~ Now we will apply the cat face. Starting with the last row of garter sts, count three rows up and place a stitch marker. Beginning with the first st on the left side, count off the first 7 sts going to the right, and place a stitch marker. Now, beginning with the first st on the right side, count off the first 7 sts going to the left, and place a stitch marker there as well. This will be the stitching area for the cat face. I made some visuals to show you, including where the bottom whisker should be placed:

~ After you finish stitching the cat face in duplicate stitch, fold the hat in half lengthwise, wrong side (purl side) facing you, and seam both sides

~ When you flip the hat back to the right side and wear it, the ears will automatically form around your head
