Hooded Pocket Shawl Pattern & pdf File

You will find the written pattern below. If you prefer to download the FREE pdf file, you can find it at these two places:

Supplies

~ Worsted weight yarn, 4-ply, any color or color combinations you want to use

~ Size 8 (5.00 mm) knitting needles

~ Stitch markers

~ Yarn needle

~ 2 decorative buttons (optional)

Stitches Used

~ garter stitches (knit all rows)

~ kfb (knit front and back)

Instructions

~ For the shawl, cast on 25 sts

~ Work in garter sts for 170 rows (will measure approximately 21 1/2 inches or 53 1/4 cm)

~ Cast off

~ With one of the short shawl sides facing you, count off 5 sts, start yarn in 6th st, pick up 15 sts, leaving last 5 sts unworked

~ Work these 15 sts in garter sts for 20 rows. This will form your first pocket

~ Cast off, and sew pocket sides to shawl. If you want to add a decorative button to the outside of each pocket, sew the button on before sewing the pocket sides to the shawl

~ Repeat on the other short side of the shawl to form your second pocket

~ To start the hood, turn the shawl, so the side with the pockets is facing you. Fold the shawl in half length-wise, and add a stitch marker to the center st. Measure 3.25 inches to the left and add another stitch marker. Measure 3.25 inches to the right and start yarn in that st. You can now remove the stitch marker in the center

~ Pick up 28 sts, ending at the last stitch marker, which can then be removed

~ Rows 1-6 - work in garter sts

~ Row 7 - k 1, kfb 1 st, repeat the kfb 1 st for the entire row, except for the last st, which is k = 55 sts

~ Rows 8-41 - work in garter sts

~ Cast off

~ With wrong side facing you, fold the hood in half length-wise, sew it together, and flip it right side out

~ Weave in all ends
