Knitted Crop Top With Ruffle Sleeves & Basic Knitted Skirt - Pattern & pdf File

Supplies

~ Worsted weight yarn, 4-ply, any color you want

~ Size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles

~ Stitch holder

~ Yarn needle

~ 2 small buttons

~ Sewing needle and thread; only needed if the holes of the buttons you choose are too small to be sewn on with the knitting yarn and the yarn needle


Abbreviations

~ st - stitch

~ sts - stitches

~ k - knit

~ p - purl

~ k2tog - knit two stitches together

~ p2tog - purl two stitches together

~ kfb - knit front and back

~ pfkb - purl front and knit back

~ yo - yarn over

~ stockinette sts - knit one row, purl one row

~ garter sts - knit all rows

Instructions


~ Knitted Crop Top With Ruffle Sleeves ~

* Please note: The top is worked from the bottom up *


Front

~ Cast on 26 sts

~ Work 5 rows in garter sts

~ Rows 1-8 - work in stockinette sts, start row 1 with p

~ Row 9 - cast off 3 sts, p to end of row = 23 sts (first armhole formed)

~ Row 10 - cast off 3 sts, k to end of row = 20 sts (second armhole formed)

~ Rows 11-14 - work in stockinette sts

~ Row 15 - p 5 sts, k 10 sts, p 5 sts

~ Row 16 - k across to end of row

~ Row 17 - p 5 sts, cast off 10 sts, p 4 sts (front neckline formed)

~ Rows 18-23 - work the first 5 sts on knitting needle in stockinette sts (left shoulder formed)

~ Cast off

~ With right side (k side) facing you, join yarn in the first st of the 5 sts left on knitting needle

~ Work 6 rows in stockinette sts (right shoulder formed)

~ Cast off

* Please note: If you want your sweater to be longer, add more rows between row 1 and row 8. By adding rows, you could also easily turn the sweater into a dress. Don't forget to do the same for the back! *


Back

~ Cast on 26 sts

~ Work 5 rows in garter sts

~ Rows 1-8 - work in stockinette sts, start row 1 with p

~ Row 9 - cast off 3 sts, p to end of row = 23 sts (first armhole formed)

~ Row 10 - cast off 3 sts, k to end of row = 20 sts (second armhole formed)

* Please note: We are now dividing the back into two halves, in order to make two button bands *

Left Back Half:

~ Row 11 - p 10 sts,
                 - place 10 sts on stitch holder,
                 - cast on 4 sts (beginning of button band) = 14 sts
                 (see picture 1)

~ Row 12 - k across to end of row

~ Row 13 - p 10 sts, k 4 sts

~ Row 14 - k 1 st, k2tog, k across to end of row

~ Row 15 - p 10 sts, k 2 sts, yo, k 1 st (first buttonhole formed)

~ Row 16 - k across to end of row

~ Row 17 - p 10 sts, k 4 sts

~ Row 18 - k across to end of row

~ Row 19 - p 10 sts, k 1 st, k2tog, k 1 st

~ Row 20 - k 1 st, yo, k across to end of row (second buttonhole formed)

~ Row 21 - p 10 sts, k 4 sts

~ Row 22 - k across to end of row

~ Row 23 - p 10 sts, k 4 sts

~ Cast off

Right Back Half:

~ Row 11 - place remaining 10 sts back on knitting needle,
                 - with wrong side (p side) facing you, join yarn
                 - k 4 sts (beginning of button band), p 6 sts
                 (see picture 2)

~ Row 12 - k across to end of row

~ Row 13 - k 4 sts, p 6 sts

~ Rows 14-23 - repeat rows 12 and 13

~ Cast off

~ With wrong side (p side) facing you, sew front to back, starting with the armholes and ending with the bottom hem


Sleeves

~ With right side (k side) facing you, join yarn at the shoulder and pick up 18 sts, going down the armhole, over the side seam, and up the other armhole to the opposite shoulder

~ Rows 1-10 - work in stockinette sts, start row 1 with p

~ Row 11 - p 2 sts, pfkb 1 st, repeat to end of row = 24 sts

~ Row 12 - k 2 sts, kfb 1 st, repeat to end of row = 32 sts

~ Row 13 - p 2 sts, pfkb 1 st, repeat to end of row = 42 sts

~ Row 14 - k 2 sts, kfb 1 st, repeat to end of row = 56 sts

~ Row 15 - p 2 sts, pfkb 1 st, repeat to end of row = 74 sts

~ Row 16 - k across to end of row

~ Row 17 - p across to end of row

~ Rows 18-20 - work in garter sts

~ Cast off

~ With wrong side (p side) together, sew sleeve and shoulder seam closed

~ Sew buttons to button band on right back half, directly across from button holes on left back half

~ Weave in all ends

Front & Back

~ Cast on 22 sts

~ Rows 1-10 - work in garter sts

~ Row 11 - kfb in first 3 sts, k 16 sts, kfb in last 3 sts = 28 sts

~ Rows 12-29 - work in stockinette sts, start row 12 with p

~ Row 30 - p2tog, p2tog, p2tog, p 16 sts, p2tog, p2tog, p2tog = 22 sts

~ Rows 31-35 - work in garter sts

~ Cast off

~ Make a second identical piece

~ With wrong side (p side) facing you, sew both pieces together

~ Weave in all ends
